Katia Duncan joined the Ballmer Institute in July 2023 as an Assistant Clinical Professor. Katia graduated with a Master of Social Work from the University of Denver in 2014, and has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2018. She is currently licensed in Colorado and Oregon.
Since graduating, she has provided therapeutic interventions in acute care, community systems, crisis intervention, outpatient private practice, and school special service provision. The majority of her experience is working with adolescents and their families as a school social worker, providing personal, psychoeducational, psychosocial, and animal-assisted counseling services in Colorado. Katia moved to Oregon in 2021, where she opened her own practice, Untold Story, LLC. Through that practice, she focuses on providing individual therapy primarily for young adults aged 14-22, addressing a range of mental health and social-emotional concerns. She has also demonstrated a commitment to professional development by preparing training materials and delivering instruction on various topics, including complex developmental trauma, trauma-informed teaching strategies, and culturally responsive supervision to clinical supervisors and school social workers.
In 2021 she also become Adjunct Faculty at Portland State University in the MSW Program. She taught courses focused on clinical theory and skills, specializing in working with individuals (adults & children) and families. In the '22-'23 school year, Katia transitioned to the position of Associate Professor of Practice (Fixed Term), where she continued teaching focused on clinical skills, field education, trauma-informed care, and advocacy.
Katia is excited to transition into the role of Clinical Professor at the Ballmer Institute and work with such a wonderful team. She is eager to be able to continue to serve and support students to build skills to respond to the needs of our community in Portland.
