Dr. Karrie Walters is a Teaching Professor at the Ballmer Institute for Children’s Behavioral Health and the Program Director for the Pre-Child Behavioral Health major at the University of Oregon’s Eugene campus. A licensed psychologist, she specializes in child behavioral health, child/family interventions and psychological assessment/diagnosis for neurodevelopmental disorders.
Karrie received her Master's in Special Education from the University of North Texas, specializing in children with emotional and behavioral disorders, and her doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology in 2010 from the University of Oregon. Karrie has worked with children and families in educational, social work and community counseling environments for over 25 years, providing a wide range of services, such as behavioral consultation in schools, intensive family therapy and comprehensive diagnostic evaluations.
Karrie is also the founder and Clinical Director of the Comprehensive Diagnostic Assessment Center at the UO HEDCO clinic, providing advanced clinical training in comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessment to doctoral students across multiple programs.
In her work with students, Karrie regularly translates current research to applied practice, integrating her 25 years of clinical experience into her teaching and offering robust training experiences to her students. In 2026 she was awarded the Williams Fellowship, a prestigious award presented to faculty demonstrating excellent teaching, a commitment to undergraduate education and innovative curricular development.
