From the nation's first undergraduate degree in child behavioral health to graduate training for working educators, the Ballmer Institute prepares professionals to support youth and families before challenges escalate into crises.
Bachelor's degree in Child Behavioral Health
The Ballmer Institute at UO Portland offers the nation's first undergraduate degree in child behavioral health, preparing the next generation of behavioral health provider. Through a combination of coursework and supervised practice, students develop the knowledge and skills needed to deliver evidence-based behavioral health services to youth and families.
Beginning in 2027, graduates will be eligible to pursue licensure in Oregon as Behavioral Health and Wellness Practitioners — a new pathway into the behavioral health workforce.

graduate microcredential
The Ballmer Institute has trained over 200 educators and youth-serving professionals through the University of Oregon's graduate microcredential in child behavioral health—a three-course online program built for working professionals.
The program is being redesigned for the 2027–28 academic year and is not accepting applications. Information about the redesign will be posted here as it becomes available.
